Grandma's Big Day

Today, both girls had some long anticipated holding time with their Grandma (aka Mel's Mom). Top picture is Grandma and Lola and bottom picture is Grandma and Lily. Both girls loved the special holding time and spending some one on one time with their Grandma. I am certain that Grandma enjoyed it as well.

Both girls gained weight last two nights, and Lola now weighs 4 lbs. 12.5 oz. Lily weighs 4 lbs. 8.9 oz. It is amazing how big they seem now. Both girls have definite baby fat rolls on their chins and necks, which is the way it is supposed to be.

We all (Mom included) continue to work on bottle feedings. It may seem like a simple thing, but to preemie twin girls and their parents, it is not. They get tired quickly and fall asleep. They can forget to breathe or have a regular heartbeat. It makes their feedings sometimes fairly intense. It takes lots of concentration for them and for Mom to pace them appropriately.

Tomorrow, they turn 35 weeks gestation. Apparently, it can take awhile (even up to 38 weeks gestation) for the feeding rhythm of sucking/swallowing/breathing etc. to really become sharp and timely. Both girls also are having reflux issues, which is extremely common in preemies. We just continue to be thankful for these sweet angels and pray that all the issues associated with preterm birth go away as soon as possible. Thanks to everyone for your support. (A special hello to Caden who was very sad the other day that he couldn't go see his Lily and Lola. It won't be too much longer Caden!)
